Introduction

The complex of gardens and a chateau in Kromeriz was inscribed on the list of National Cultural Sights of the Czech Republic in 1995 and in 1998 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

History in brief

The archbishop's chateau in Kromeriz is a beautiful building and the centre of historical town Kromeriz. The original castle (from the 13th century) was a residence of Olomouc bishops and a centre of their liege organization. The Gothic castle was rebuilt in Renaissance style. In 1643 the Sweedish soldiers destroyed the castle and town and the chateau was rebuilt much later. The representative and residential area of the castle ranks among the most precious chateau interiors in central Europe.
